The Angels went 1 and 3 this stretch, dropping the opener to the Texas Rangers 6-7 and then losing two of three to the Minnesota Twins after taking the first game 4-3. That series against the Twins ended with a 3-5 loss on Saturday and a 2-4 loss on Sunday. Not a good week, and it drops the Angels to 38 and 59 on the season.
The division didn't get any friendlier either. The Rangers went 3 and 1 over these games and took over first place from the Seattle Mariners, and the Angels now sit 11.5 games back in the American League West, up from 10 games back a week ago. They're still in fifth place in the division, and 10 games back in the wild card race. Over the last ten games the Angels are 2 and 8, and the run differential slipped from minus 51 to minus 55.
The bright spot was Nolan Schanuel (1B), who went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI in that Thursday loss to the Rangers and hit .563 over the whole stretch, 9 for 16 with 4 RBI across four games. Vaughn Grissom (3B) hit a home run and drove in 2 in the win over the Twins on Friday, and Denzer Guzman (3B) also homered and drove in a run in Sunday's loss.
No roster moves to report. The Angels are in the middle of a break now, with the last game played Sunday, July 12 and the next one not until Friday, July 17, since this stretch includes the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 14. When they're back, it's a three-game series at home against the Detroit Tigers, starting Friday, July 17 at 6:38 PM at Angel Stadium.
