Thursday, July 9 to Wednesday, July 15

As of Wednesday, July 15. Read it in about ninety seconds.

The Giants took three out of four games from the Colorado Rockies at Oracle Park this stretch, and it was a good one to be away for. They opened with an 8-2 win on Thursday, July 9, dropped a 3-4 game on Friday, then closed it out with a 4-2 win Saturday and a 3-1 win Sunday. That's the series in the win column, and the Giants are now on a two game winning streak.

The offense had some real highlights. Rafael Devers (DH) went 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI in that Friday loss. Casey Schmitt (3B) was the story of the whole series though, homering on both Thursday and Saturday and driving in 5 runs total across the four games, hitting .375 for the stretch. On the mound, Tyler Mahle went 7 innings on Saturday, allowing just 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts for the win, and Trevor McDonald matched that Sunday with 7 innings and only 1 earned run allowed.

In the standings, the Giants sit fourth in the National League West, but the gap closed some, down to 19.5 games back from 22. Their record now stands at 41 and 55 on the season. The Dodgers, sitting atop the division, actually lost all three games they played this stretch, which helped the ground make-up some.

There's no game to report on for the last few days. The league paused for the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 14, so the Giants have been off since that Sunday win over the Rockies. They're back at it Friday, July 17, at 7:10 PM PDT, on the road against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park for a three game series.

Why you can trust the numbers

Every voiced catch-up is written from one source: the box scores of the games you missed. A separate checker reads it back against those box scores, line by line, before it reaches you. If a single score, date, or name cannot be verified, you get the plain numbers instead. Nothing invented ever ships.
