The Giants went 3-3 this stretch, splitting a four game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at home, then beating the Atlanta Braves 7-3 before dropping the opener in Pittsburgh 12-13 against the Pirates.
The split with the D-backs was a real back and forth. Giants won 6-1 on Thursday, lost 6-10 on Friday, then split a doubleheader Saturday, losing 1-7 before taking the nightcap 7-2. Then it was off to Atlanta for a 7-3 win over the Braves, and now they're in Pittsburgh, where Tuesday's game got away from them in a 12-13 slugfest with the Pirates.
None of this moved the needle much in the National League West. The Giants sit fourth, 25.5 games back, just half a game better than where they were a week ago. The Los Angeles Dodgers still lead the division and actually went 2-3 themselves this stretch, so nobody up top is running away with anything at this point. Over the last ten games the Giants are an even 5-5.
Bryce Eldridge (1B) has been the story at the plate. He hit 4 for 5 with 4 RBI on August 29, homered in that August 28 loss, and is hitting .400 with 8 RBI over these six games as the DH. Turner Hill (LF) also had a big day, going 4 for 5 against the Pirates on September 1.
There was a lot of roster movement too. Casey Schmitt (LF) went to the 60-day injured list with a meniscus tear, and Adrian Houser also landed on the 60-day list with a forearm strain. Sam Hentges went down with a forearm strain as well. The Giants brought in Matt Wilkinson, Yunior Marte, and Cesar Perdomo, called up catcher Zach Morgan, and signed Charlie Muniz and Darren Baker to minor league deals.
